Biography

Tanya Schevitz, 36, studied communications at the University of California at Berkeley from 1988-1992, and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 1993. Tanya has been with the San Francisco Chronicle since 1997 and she has covered the University of California system as well as higher education statewide since 1999, conducting an exhaustive investigation of the University of California’s pay practices. She has also worked at the San Francisco Examiner and the Marin Independent Journal. Tanya is married with a four-year-old son, Cash, who will join her in Germany and attend a German preschool during those two months. Tanya is excited to immerse herself in German culture and is interested in writing about the changing German higher education system and some of the common issues facing Germans and Americans.
