Public Service Journalism for Arabic-speaking Journalists

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) held a six-week online course in Arabic on using digital tools in public service journalism and investigative techniques. The online course was the first part of a program that brought together journalists, citizen journalists and civil society actors from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen. The six-week online course guided 60 participants from the above mentioned countries to work on ideas for multimedia public service journalism projects.

Media Play a Key Role in Senegal's Election

Senegal held a successful runoff election for president on March 25th, resulting in the defeat of two-term President Abdoulaye Wade. Despite fears that Wade would refuse to go quietly and that violence would result, he conceded defeat to opposition candidate Mackey Sall and Senegal experienced a relatively smooth transfer of power. Journalists were credited with getting out the results early and professionally, making it difficult to dispute the outcome.

Former Knight Fellow Shines International Spotlight on Peru

Knight International Journalism Fellow Hena Cuevas was assigned to report on the Peruvian potato for China Central Television (CCTV). Peru is the birthplace of the potato and home to more than 4,000 species of the tuber.

Cuevas knew the best way to cover a global story so important to her country was through Red TV, the national network she partnered with during her fellowship to create Peru's first broadcast training center.
